Welcome to D1_3Dfx! Please take the time to read this README before starting
the game. First of all please note that this product is far away from being
bug-free and is still in Beta state. There are many bugs, however we beleave
that there are no major ones anymore, especially ones that let you somehow
enable to cheat in multiplayer, like being able to turn or shoot faster.

Have fun with this version and prepare for Descent...

VERSION: V1.0 Beta 01, 08/29/98

Things not supported in this release:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- No modem/serial support
- No cockpit support
- No mouse support
Known bugs/issues:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If you have no sound card installed, start the game with the "-nosound"
  switch. Otherwise it might freeze in some levels.

- Switching game modes (640x480 -> 800x600 or other way round) does not
  work correctly at the moment. Switch game modes only in the main menu.

- Add-on missions like Orion Nebula Projects with custom briefing pictures
  might not show the right ones, but the original ones. For Orion Nebula
  Project this will be fixed in a new version V1.02, which will come out
  right after the first public beta of D1_3Dfx.

- On very few systems D1_3DFX crashes after trying to start the game (right
  after PREPARE TO DESCENT). If this happens to you please send a complete info
  of your system as well as a list of your system software.

- Please open D1_3DFX.BUG in a text editor (like NOTEPAD) for known bugs.

- Before you report bugs to us please first check if the bug is not already
  known (check this by looking into the D1_3DFX.BUG file).

Things that could not be tested yet (and we ask you to test it):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Check if playing in a network (both LAN and under KALI/KAHN) works without
  problems.
Special features of D1_3Dfx:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Full Windows NT support.
- 800x600 support, even under Voodoo 1.
- Music bug of Interplay's V1.0->V1.5 patch automatically fixed by D1_3Dfx
  installer (even for standard D1 executables).
- A special anarchy level by Luke Schneider called "Jolt" was made for the
  D1_3Dfx release and is installed with setup.
- Also the 5-level-anarchy-level set "Total Insanity" by Luke Schneider is
  installed with D1_3Dfx.

Requirements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Windows 95/98 or Windows NT V4.0
- Windows 95/98: DirectX 5, Windows NT: Service Pack 3
